Which Window Treatments Are the Most Privacy Friendly?
Your house is your castle, and if you’re like most homeowners, getting Orlando window treatments that give you privacy and noise control to maintain your sanctuary is important. Any window treatment is better than an uncovered window. Yet there are some window treatments that add more privacy than others, particularly on hard to cover windows.
Improving Privacy on Windows That Are Hard to Cover
Most large, square windows in your home are simple to cover with almost any window treatment such as blinds, shades, or shutters in Orlando.
However, there are some situations when you need a specific kind of window treatment to achieve the level of privacy you need. These could be:
-
Bathroom windows where water and humidity might damage fabric window treatments.
-
Sidelight windows that are long and skinny where window treatments can be knocked around by the door’s movement.
-
Non-square windows such as arches, circles, bow windows, etc., where normal store-bought blinds and shades can’t cover your window without hiding the window’s unique shape.
-
Large windows that can be impossible to reach like second-story foyer windows.
In these cases, you’ll need window treatments that go the extra mile to add privacy to your house.
As a plus, find window treatments that offer good sound control to keep random noise outside and keep inside noise inside.
The Top Window Coverings for Privacy
The most privacy-friendly window treatment we recommend are Polywood® plantation shutters. Plantation shutters are able to be shut completely, for when complete privacy and light control is what you need. If you want to let light in and see outside, just tilt the louvers. For high windows, you can always keep the louvers tilted at an angle to let light in while still keeping your privacy.
Interior shutters are also great for specialty-shaped windows because they can be customized to fit any shape or size. And since Polywood shutters are moisture resistant, they’re perfect for bathrooms.
Another privacy-friendly window treatment is roller shades. Roller shades take up very little space at the top of the window, but are easily pulled down to prevent anyone being able to see in your home. While they can’t be custom-fit to fit unique window shapes, you can find roller shapes in moisture-resistant material for areas such as the kitchen or bathroom.
Window Treatments that Don’t Help With Privacy
While any window treatment gives you at least some privacy, there are two that might not get the job done. The first is sheer curtains. Sheer curtains used to be popular a while back and can add a light feeling to a room. Yet they’re easy to see through, particularly when it’s dark out.
Another window covering that isn’t great for privacy are aluminum or heavy blinds, which can snap and/or get stuck at an angle. If you can’t totally shut the blinds due to breakage, then they’re not helping keeping your home private.
